This is a collagraph, created using three separate plates made from cardboard, which is cut into and added to (hence the use of "collage" in the name of this style of printmaking). The additions can be found materials (I use discarded wallpaper samples, fabric and masking tape, for example), glue and other materials to add texture and hold the ink or act as "lights" in the image. The plate is sealed, then inked intaglio and printed onto damp paper.
This image portrays the canal near my home and the stone which is everywhere around me. I love watching the water flow past, glassy or rippled, dimpled by raindrops, hidden by a layer of ice in the winter.
