This work has been inspired by my 3 decades of living in Sydney’s inner-west and witnessing its transformation into a greener, more diverse community. My work, WILD IKAT, is a tribute to the lush plantings that now thrive across Sydney’s Inner West. This work delicately weaves together Australia’s vibrant colours and textures with the blurred lines of traditional IKAT patterns, echoing the intricate threads of Asian textiles. Each brushstroke captures the dynamic interplay between nature and culture, inviting reflection on our symbiotic relationship with the environment. Through this work, I hope to emphasise the vital importance of respecting our habitats and our relationship to culture.
