Artwork description:

This zinc etching print explores ideas grounded in research on Lost Generations, a series of various works created by Adam Grose since 2018.

The image portrays layers of women, etched on top of one another, some borrowed from various old master paintings, some from contemporary magazines and some from re-imaginings, each layer exploring many women lost to history, some unknowns forever lost to time and some re-discovered and given the recognition for the innovations and inventions attributed to them.

These images try to explore how various people throughout history are easily forgotten, obscured, 'white-washed' from history and how anyone of us can be forgotten, leaving possibly only our knowledge and ideas with those who follow on from us, whether this is our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, students, friends or as artists are lucky enough to create an artwork that will endure its time and continue to contribute to history of art and future generations.

This piece is one of many series' of works exploring these types of ideas, continuing a line of enquiry begun in 2011, beginning with the words from an essay written by Adam exploring: Obscure, Obscuring and the Obscured.

Materials used:

Zinc Etching on White Unica Fabriano, Hand Burnt Willow Pigment, Printing Medium
