Original artwork description:

This collage initially started life as a drawing for a childrens story which a friend wrote when our children were very little. She never finished writing it but I have since made collages and linocut prints from some of the ideas I had for the illustrations. I like using interior and fabric patterns, plants, leaves and colours from magazines, my old prints and photographs. The birds here have magazine patterns as the body, wings, tail.
I also wanted to make the bird 'fly' so it's slightly in relief (I've made it stick out using papers folded behind the collage birds.)
I might use the bird idea for a lino cut in the future and I've also been using it as part of some digital textiles I'm creating at the moment, it is appearing in a different form on coasters, mugs and possibly fabric for cushions .
