Hand-pulled etching printed on 300gsm Hahnemuhle velvet surface fine art paper in a beautiful Prussian blue (almost blue-black) traditional oil based ink which contrasts beautifully with the creamy natural white colour of the paper. Edition of 50, each signed and numbered in pencil in the margin.
FRAMED and ready to hang. The print is mounted on soft white bevel-cut conservation grade mountboard and in a very solidly hand made solid pine frame. I can supply this either in black or natural pine, both with a lovely waxed finish. Glazed with optical grade acrylic "glass" as preferred by most museums due to it's superior protection and safety factors.
The design was first burned into a metal plate using a highly corrosive solution, the plate is then inked by hand and rolled through a hand-cranked etching press with a sheet of damp paper. The press squeezes the plate against the paper with thousands of pounds of force, transferring the ink onto the paper. When it comes out of the press, the impression of the printing plate can be seen embossed into the paper. The video shows me making an etching (Moonlight Crow) from blank metal plate to finished print.
Created at my studio at the edge of The Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons National park in the wilds of Wales, UK.
