The imagery of this work arose from experimentation: I used my non-dominated hand and often closed my eyes using compressed charcoal (vs my usual chunky whispery willow charcoal) to find my forms. As the work evolved, I intentionally set out to shake up my clean line quality with a more expressive feeling… When the title surfaced I recognised the subject. And it made me cry. This work is about my deep love of my husband; and all that I hold and carry in my heart for him - as a witness to the loss of his son. It’s a work about loss and love; fragility and vulnerability - and mystery and wonder.
