Original artwork description:

A Night At Sea - Finisterre

Finisterre (the painting) is based on a coastal weather station from the shipping forecast, which in my teens I had to listen to most mornings at 5am in the school summer holidays.
My Dad just loved his boat.
If the forecast was good it was a case of cast off the ropes and away we went to the next port of call.
If it was bad, crawl back into bed and hope for better weather the next day.

The name Finisterre had been part of the UK Shipping Forecast since 1949. Britain used the term to refer to a 90,000 square mile area of Atlantic Ocean off the North West coast of Spain.

The problem is, Spain also used the name Finisterre for a much smaller zone in the same ocean. The United Nations World Meteorological Organisation decided this could confuse sailors and ordered Britain to rename its Finisterre sea area.

British broadcasters renamed the zone FitzRoy, chosen in memory of the founding father of the Met Office, Admiral Robert FitzRoy

ALTERED HORIZONS

From vibrant bursts of energy to soothing gradients of tranquility, the colours radiate with an inherent vitality that leaves an indelible impression on the viewer's soul. This captivating collection is a testament to the boundless possibilities of abstract art, form and colour converge to awaken the senses and ignite the spirit of artistic expression.

Each artwork in this collection explores horizons.

These paintings serve as a visual journey, a thought-provoking exploration in an impressionistic style.

Shapes may emerge and dissolve, lines may intersect and diverge, and textures may create depth and tactile sensations.

In the absence of recognisable objects, I encourage viewers to engage with their own perceptions, memories, and emotions, allowing for personal interpretations.

Explore the concept of the horizon, both as a physical and metaphorical entity. From tranquil seascapes to abstract landscapes, each piece offers a unique perspective on the endless possibilities that lie beyond the horizon.

"Altered Horizons" invites you to engage with the artists' interpretations of the horizon, encouraging you to embark on a visual journey that transcends the ordinary. Immerse yourself in the profound beauty of nature and the infinite potential that lies beyond the ever-shifting horizon.

Within these artworks, the horizon takes centre stage, serving as a dynamic focal point that ties together the diverse pieces. Shades of blue dance across each canvas, creating an immersive experience that invites viewers to delve into the depths of emotion and perception.
