Original artwork description:

This is the tenth of my "Find your wings and fly away" pictures. The method for creating the butterflies is a bit different - I've printed three sizes of one of my butterfly drawings onto watercolour paper and then painted swirling lines in various blues. I've then splattered darker ultramarine and aqua watercolour at the tops of each piece of paper and white at the bottom so that I get a graduation from light to dark. I then divided the butterflies into three lots and painted the left hand wings in dark metalic blue, aqua, and silver.

I hand cut the three sizes of butterfly and decoratively arranged them in a graduating square, in the centre of a heavy watercolour paper sheet. The darker butterflies with blue metalic are at the top, aqua in the centre, and silver at the base.
The painting is framed in a white glazed (perspex) deep box frame.

The result is a vibrant blues to silver modern relief design revealing individual butterflies on closer inspection. Different shadows are cast, and light reflected from the metalic paint on the up-turned wings depending on the direction of the light.
