Original artwork description:

This is the twelfth of my "Find your wings and fly away" pictures and once again I've printed three sizes of one of my butterfly drawings and painted all the left hand wings in turquoise.
All of the right hand wings have been painted in aqua and gold metallic watercolour.
I've darkened the left hand wings of the top third of the butterflies by adding flecks of Paynes Grey and dots of black watercolour, and for the lower third I've dotted white acrylic

I cut the three sizes/colours of butterfly and decoratively arranged them in a graduating square, in the centre of a heavy watercolour paper sheet. The darker butterflies at the top, lighter in the centre, and with the white dots at the base.

The painting is framed in a white glazed (Perspex) deep box frame.

The result is a vibrant aqua/turquoise modern relief design revealing individual butterflies on closer inspection. Different shadows are cast, and light reflected from the metalic paint on the up-turned wings depending on the direction of the light.

Materials used:

Watercolour, metalic watercolour and acyrylic on card in a white glazed (perspex) deep box frame
