Original artwork description:

This image was created during my stay at the Cyprus College of Art in Lemba, Pafos back in 2013. The image explores entropy and the worn away image - inspired from the Icons I saw during my time in Cyprus in the old Churches on their walls.

I thought about artworks and how over time images fade, especially if left to the elements and extremities of hot and cold. this image of a woman is a study of form through wearing away the materials, building up the layers each time, before wiping down again. I am interested in the layering of time and layering of materials.

The image also explores mixing oil pastels with charcoal, using turpentine and linseed oil to spread and seal the layers.

Materials used:

Oil Pastel, Charcoal, Turpentine, Linseed Oil, Cartridge Paper.
