Acrylic on canvas.
92cm x 61cm x 3.5cm.
Unframed.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the first beam of light through the clouds, on a winter's dawn. The welsh mountians in the distance draw your eyes across the craggy black rocks in their foreground.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies, land and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over North Wales,
The varying blue-grey, blush and gold tones are developed by layering and lifting the paint, to find previous hues and tones laid beneath, building depth, movement and highlights.
