These two figures are part of a long saga that explores decadent and romantic lives, lived out in vignettes that seem to belong to parallel realities. The protagonist, Mr. Noj Verde, is depicted in the foreground with one foot resting on a bag of money, situated on a deserted island. This element represents an inner dilemma related to the value of material wealth.

In front of him, another, smaller Mr. Noj is shown beside a brazier, pleading for help. The scene is steeped in tension, heightened by the presence of two ships on the horizon: on the left, a rowboat approaching from a galleon belonging to the Mr. Noj congregation, while on the right, the Titanic looms, an ominous symbol of death and destruction, suggesting that the help offered by this ship does not represent true salvation.

At the bottom, the painting is enriched with animal symbols, including a dead rat and a golden scarab. The rat, remembered by the artist while painting, represents death encountered by chance in a garden, while the golden scarab embodies wealth that transcends mere material value, alluding to spiritual or intellectual prosperity.

Questi due personaggi fanno parte di una lunga saga che esplora vite decadenti e romantiche, vissute in vignette che sembrano appartenere a realtà parallele. Il protagonista, Mr. Noj Verde, si presenta in primo piano, con un piede poggiato su un sacco di soldi, situato su un’isola deserta. Il topo, memorizzato dall’artista mentre dipingeva, rappresenta la morte incontrata per caso in un giardino, mentre lo scarabeo d’oro incarna una ricchezza che trascende il mero valore materiale, alludendo a una prosperità spirituale o intellettuale.
