I like to paint objects of daily use because they’re a reminder of purpose and belonging. I have a special enjoyment feeling for this vintage, spice container that I found during a trip to Tanger, Morocco; and I love how it is designed to keep the spices under their cone-shaped lid, like a tajine. We love and appreciate the traditions and objects’ uses that are different from the culture that we grew up into. Sometimes these objects and their uses open our eyes into understanding other perspectives of life, which I love.
Inside the spice-containers, I put fennel seeds and powdered turmeric, cooking is always lovely when adding to the food good attitude and our favorite flavors.
This is a painting about love and food, the cherished moments around the kitchen.
Oil on canvas panel, 9 x 12 inches.
Oils, wax crayons
