Photorealistic / photorealism bird painting of the laughing kookaburra. One of the most popular birds in Australia, and a member of the kingfisher. The red sun is a symbol of life & the universe.
I painted this piece because I was fascinated by the unique appearance of this bird. It has a chubby body, beautiful bright blue feathers, and the face has a brown stripe like a mask crossing each eye.
The name "laughing kookaburra" refers to the bird's "laugh," which it uses to establish territory among family groups. Even though they are kingfishers, laughing kookaburras eat more insects, reptiles, frogs, and rodents than fish. Despite their adorable appearance, they hunt snakes bigger than themselves and even steal food from barbecue sites. The title came from this interesting fact.
