From Original Edition of 30 - printed on A3 fine art paper.
(Total Edition Size = 50 prints)
The Denmark flag is considered the oldest flag in the world and the Danes call their national flag 'Dannebrog'. For many Danes the Denmark flag is not so much a symbol of patriotism as much as it symbolises a genuine love and connection to their native country or 'Fædreland' as they affectionately call it.
I stumbled across this weather beaten Dannebrog after a days cycling through Denmark as part of my Berlin to Copenhagen cycle tour. I was tired but drawn out to explore a small little sea port by the beautiful evening light. I particularly like how the purples and magenta in the late evening sky compliment the deep red of the flag. I had to make several compositions adjusting the shutter speed of my Fuji X100s until I was happy with the positioning of the flag as it fluttered in the breeze.
This print has a beautiful warm nostalgic feel to it with the aged stark condition of the Dannebrog demonstrating defiance and resilience through it's strong form and colour despite the raging elements. The mood is made complete through the deep colouration of the stormy dusk sky.
