Father figure Oil On Canvas 76x37 _x000D_ I have been a massive fan of Maya Angelou for several years since I discovered her by accident in a documentary and her beautiful voice echoed in me as she read her poetry. I have painted her portrait three times. I can’t read books because of narcolepsy but I have found audible to be my life saver and I have finally got around to listening to one of her novels “I Know Where The Cage Bird Sings”. The way she writes about her abuse as a child really hit me. She wrote it through an innocents child’s eyes and I found it very powerful. This is what this painting is representing. A child without a father figure seeking in any who show attention that fatherly love. The betrayal of evil people that exploit that is represented in the distorted faces and also hope in the good faces where a child does receive kindness. The boy that has a fathers hand protecting him is her looking at the boy wishing she was him. Half of her figure remains empty as if missing a piece to feel like a whole person. _x000D_ _x000D_ This is painted on canvas made of pvc which is very strong and will last forever. I wanted that texture for this painting. This painting comes rolled in triple walled very strong tube. The framer will stretch to board for minimal cost. Less than a hundred dollars. I send it this way so shipping fee isn’t in the several hundred. I’m a London-based artist, and my work often reflects vivid and surreal imagery inspired by my unique experience with REM intrusion—a condition where dream-like visions can appear while I’m awake. My paintings explore the boundary between waking reality and the dream world, using layered compositions to create a sense of depth and movement. I paint with high-quality materials and put a lot of thought into texture and detail. My process is a mix of intuitive brushwork and deliberate layering, aiming to create pieces that are rich in emotion and invite you to see something new each time you look at them. This piece will be carefully packaged using protective materials and dispatched via a tracked courier. If you have any questions or special requests, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
