The work explores profound relation between father and son. Father's figure evoking that unqestionable strength and instinct to protect the child; to carry him through life's rough waters until he grows up and learns to take care of himself. Both figures in such close and intertwined connection,
It's been fascinating and challenging to express so much through form and the piece took a long time to mature.
Definitely a relevant source of inspiration in the process was my exposure to some of the parent/child pieces by the legendary British sculptor Henry Moore, and to XX century Mexican school of sculpture with its volumes and sense of presence.
The sculpture is carved in a single piece of fine limewood - secured with a couple layers of varnish and glazed with thick white laquer.
Signature is incised underneath, at the bottom of the piece.
