Original artwork description:

This oil painting was started in the autumn of 2022 in one of my favourite woods in the New Forest, which is called Mark Ash. This ancient pasture woodland is a rare survivor of a woodland habitat which resembles the Wildwood that once covered the lowlands of Britain. The fallow buck in the fore ground is part of distinct type of fallow deer that was introduced into Britain by the Romans. The large oak tree which has a twist to its trunk has inspired me to paint this scene more than once. The morning light coming from the left helps to set off the composition. The frame is a dull gold with a light slip which suits the painting.
