'Fallen (III)' is the last and largest of a short series of paintings based an image of a large fallen branch (torn from its tree during a storm). Whilst this is the literal sense of the title, I also very much had in mind wider senses of to be, or to have 'fallen'. The juxtaposition of a long, languid horizontal set against the strong verticals of the trees was a gift, as was the creeping discolouration of the branch and its foliage beside the deep saturated greens and shadows surrounding it.
