In the artwork, we see a person sitting in the forest, yet this figure lacks a face. The knot located where the man's face should be is a symbol of constriction and entanglement. At the ends of this tangled knot of faces are green-colored faces. I pondered about how we chose the mask, the face we will wear today. It feels like everything around us seems absurd and meaningless, yet to live alongside this absurdity, one must think and exist within this tangled, complex system that humans have devised. And no matter how bad things may seem around us, somehow, it is up to us to choose the roles and faces we portray. What face will you wear today?
As I created this piece, I often let my hands gravitate toward the paper that intuitively resonated with me. The painting is divided into two fragments, each the size of A5.
The painting is created with dry pastel on craft paper and incorporates elements of charcoal drawing application.
