Inspired by John Lavery’s turn-of-the-century society portraits, and their intense focus on their subjects’ faces, this piece in burnt umber, also incorporates a second stare-that of a goldfinch perched upon the sitter's outstretched hand. They’ve both got their eyes fixed firmly on the viewer.

The piece is painted using exceptional quality Old Holland and Winsor and Newton Artists' series oil paints and mediums with the highest ratings of permanence and light-fastness. The painting is on fine grain Italian linen by Belle Arti..The piece is 70 cm H by 50 cm W.
