Oil on linen 68x106x2cm (26.8x41.7x0.8in) 2020, ready to hang.
“Eyes of the lion” is the second painting (after “Dreaming of the Flowers Market”) in which I experiment the mix of two different techniques: realism and expressionism. The realistic figures of the boy and the Chinese lion-headed man are painted from photos I made in my studio (all but the Chinese lion mask, which I figured out mixing some samples of real masks), the background is totally invented. Spread inside the painting you can see some details inspired by the title: right above the door on the left you can notice a decoration which represents Samson fighting against the lion; the constellation of the Lion shines in the deep blue sky.
“Eyes of the lion” is a 68x106cm artwork, hand primed and painted oil on linen in my studio in 2020.
