Eyes are not only the most important of sensory organs but it is also a very strong symbol. The eye is a symbol of psychic vision and enlightenment in many spiritual organizations. In Buddhism for example, the eyes represent spiritual perception and seeing with the soul.
Spiritual perception, or real seeing has nothing to do with the eyes, but still, to demonstrate the understanding that reality as we see it is very limited and there is a whole world hidden from the eyes we need a recognisable symbol.
The eyes mean many different things to me, knowledge, spirit, power, soul, an observer within us. Eyes turned in many different directions also represent self-awareness, seeking wisdom and expanding your own vision to seek beyond what you may know or understand. I believe that self observing, self study and understanding is an utmost important task any person has in life that can reassure the well-being of our society.
