This is a plein-aire painting of a meadow in Maine in late summer. Painting in place in not a recipe for a sure success. However, it does always imprint the moment of painting into my memory. So I can remember that day: the feel of the sun that was not as strong as just a few weeks before, stepping over fox scat to get to where I wanted to paint, the slight breeze, the meadow grasses rustling and creating their own song. When a plein -aire painting does work, like this one, it has its' own exuberance and life.
This is painted on a linen panel, which has a very slight tooth or grain.
