The Paris-London Eurostar journey was not totally unknown to me. One could even say, without lying, that I was now a regular visitor. Crossing the French and then the British countryside (or vice versa) was a pleasant and familiar sight. On this day, however, the journey took an unexpected turn.

A fine mist transformed the usual landscape into a Leonardo da Vinci painting. It was as if we had passed behind the Mona Lisa and were now travelling through the background landscapes. Vaporous forms, smoky contours, the master's Sfumato seemed to have spread over the scenery.

All I had to do was look out the window at this constantly changing pictorial panorama and try to capture a few moments. I still remember a trip with a disturbing softness, like being under a quilt or walking through a cloud about to rain.
