"Europe after the War - Part I - Transfiguration"

The painting shows my view of the ruins of a German village depopulated after World War II. It is an attempt to recognize the spirit of these surprisingly many places hidden deep in the forest, in ravines and on the slopes of hills, but sometimes also right next to modern settlements. This motif - an abandoned hidden world - has accompanied me since I was a child, since I have been wandering around the Sudetes. In many areas of the former settlements there is now a dense forest, and there are no tangible traces left of many houses. Stones and remains of buildings are growing into the ground, the last fruit trees are eaten by fungi and crack under the pressure of time and decay, their bark is peeling, the wood is getting cold and crumbling. It is the last echo of the warmth left by the former inhabitants, people and their animals, an echo that disappears. These unique trees, once growing right next to houses, become ghosts, the fabric of time itself, they become a chapter in the novel of mycelium, they pass into the flutter of wings, they pass into emptiness and they transform into water and fog. Often you can miss them by meters and not see them, only feel them or someday later - maybe understand them in dreams. The signs that remain are hidden, scattered, absorbed in the cycles of underground sources, in slow transformations within another, larger than us, space-time.

The painting is inspired by real places in the Klodzko Land in the former German Sudetes: Bartschberg, Dintershöh, Neubrunn, Neu Lomnitz, Thanndorf and more...
It was created spontaneously in many sessions spread over a long period of time.
