A parade of sorts is occurring against the rising tide of a beach. There are Roman centurions, dancers in flowing costumes, a man dressed as a 19th century destitute French Monarch, and children carrying a float with a tall giraffe. In the foreground, the people looking on are flanked to the left by a living Greek God and an Olmec child.
A fantasy of sorts, speaking of passing times, the eternal return of history, both past and future, all as the waves and tides of the sea.
This painting was first started in 2011. It was exhibited in a number of shows the following year. The intervening years of storage did not diminish the artist’s interest in the idea of tides of passing time. During the lockdown of 2020, This piece was revised, reworked, and though the general idea of the composition was retained, the entire painting, every square centimeter, in fact, was repainted. Ten years in the making, this piece bears indeed the marks of passing time.
