Janus presides over all passages and thresholds, material and immaterial, such as the thresholds of houses, doors, covered passages and those surmounted by an arch, but also the beginning of a new enterprise, of human life, of economic life, of historical and mythical time, of religion, of the gods themselves, of the world, of humanity and of civilization.
