In this piece, I aimed to capture the warm ochre hues of a late summer sunset. The deep colour of the autumn sky, against the sable tones of the waters beneath, is a striking palette.
The subtle texture adds depth and makes the colours and contours pop, as the light moves across the canvas.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
The ochre and sable tones, are developed by layering and lifting the paint, to find previous hues and tones laid beneath, building depth, movement and highlights.
