Acrylic on canvas.
150cm x 100cm x 2cm.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the light as it falls on the Welsh hills, after rain.
Looking up from the valley, as the light gradually travels through the grasses, they glow in a striking shade of Chartreuse, against the stormy skies above.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies, land and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over North Wales,
The deep and textured tones are developed by layering and lifting the paint, to find previous hues and tones laid beneath, building depth, movement and highlights.
