It felt very grounding to use my earthy, grainy Rublev colors for this painting. The natural pigments lend themselves beautifully to portraiture. There is energy in the tiny grains that catch the light and sparkle back at the viewer. The model's delicate profile reminded me of an elf, and I found a little fantasy creeping into the painting. Those who know me, understand how little I allow fantasy into my life. A guarded response from my many fantasies being shattered throughout the years, I suppose. So this indulgence in representing the faery folk was therapeutic–enabling me to connect with a lost inner child.
Professional quality oil colors and medium, linen mounted on multi-media board, black and gold finish frame.
