I like to find a balance between organic and synthetic objects in my work and when I painted this picture I had been looking for a long time for a way in which to incorporate eggs into a picture. Their neutral colour and hard appearance make them an unassuming focus for a painting. However I found a match in the wood of this salt cellar and I married and brightened the neutral tones through the use of the soft blue background.
Oil paint, linseed oil, dammar varnish, MDF, cotton, rabbit skin glue, gesso.
