The dilemma, which came first – the chicken or the egg, has always interested people. The artwork is an allegory of this question. At the same time the work has a light comic effect – the egg is a lot bigger than a normal hen egg referring to the fact that even the most serious matter should not always be considered with all its grimness. The hen herself is confused because this is not her egg – she is wondering where it came from. Meanwhile, she is looking at her reflection in the mirror-like surface of the egg. Characteristic of the sculpture is the contrast between the dark patina and the mirror-like polished surface.
Krasimir Krustev’s works require within 4 to 8 weeks to make. Every piece of his fine sculptures goes through several stages of creation – modelling, casting in metal and refining.
