Original artwork description:

I loved this view, spotted on a solitary Edinburgh walk. I used to come here when I was a child. There are sepia photos of my father and his cousin in a garden in a house near here; stories woven, threads of belonging. Scampi and chips at a now closed bar, feeling grown up with my orangeade, Christmas morning walks in Inverleith Park, and the joy of charity shop book hunting. Summers and winters passed, and somehow houses stand still. There is a pinky brown hue to these houses, more Glaswegian than Edinburgh, softer perhaps, with glorious gardens bathed in cooling, mysterious shadow. Dad once told me he remembered the railings being cut down for use in the war effort. I see their little stumps now, sorry for the futility of such an act. The work is suffused with light, colour, satisfying realism and warmth. The canvas is 0.4 inches deep and can therefore hang without the need for a frame if wished.

Materials used:

acrylic and card
