All of my life, I’ve been an avid gardener, a love that I inherited from my dad, who grew up on a farm. As a child, I never tired of his stories of the farm, his horse (Kate), the antics of the animals, and his love of nature. With each plant that I tend, I marvel at God’s creative hand. Only God can breathe life into His creations, which live, grow & change. The garden, for me, is a place of prayer, reflection and renewal, which is why I have titled this large series “Echoes of Eden.” This series begins as an abstract collage, painted on vellum, upon which relevant Scripture passages are printed, which are linked to the image. Echoes #2 features a passage from the Song of Solomon: “A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed. Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all choice spices—a garden fountain, a well of living water and flowing streams from Lebanon.” The collage is then glued to 12” x 12” canvases, upon which I paint in acrylics and then oil. These paintings have been sealed with a satin varnish for protection, and hanging hardware is already installed.
