All of my life, I’ve been an avid gardener, a love that I inherited from my dad, who grew up on a farm. As a child, I never tired of his stories of the farm, his horse (Kate), the antics of the animals, and his love of nature. With each plant that I tend, I marvel at God’s creative hand. Only God can breathe life into His creations, which live, grow & change. The garden, for me, is a place of prayer, reflection and renewal, which is why I have titled this large series “Echoes of Eden.” This series begins as an abstract collage, painted on vellum, upon which relevant Scripture passages are printed, which are linked to the image. Echoes #1 features two Scriptural passages: 1 Corinthians 3: 7, “So neither the one who plants, nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” And Psalm 23: 1-3 says, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths, for His name’s sake.” The collage is then glued to 12” x 12” canvases, upon which I paint in acrylics and then oil. These paintings have been sealed with a satin varnish for protection, and hanging hardware is already installed.
