Original artwork description:

This painting is the Winner of 2 International Awards

The idea of this picture originates from my intention to pay a tribute to Andrea Mantegna, whose relatively small painting Ecce Homo, ca. 1500, now in Paris, made a great impression on me. Following Mantegna’s compositional structure, I nevertheless reduced the religious content to a mere symbolism, and focused instead on expressing the subtleties of the human emotion.
My son acted as a model.

At the first public exposure, Artists & Illustrators Magazine (UK) voted "Ecce Homo" the Winner of THE ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD 2010. It has been chosen by the Jury among 3,500 entries nationwide.
In 2011 it also received a MERIT AWARD at the ArtKudos International Competition (USA).
“This work is a compelling re-thinking of a time-honored Christian theme. The competent and fluid handling of flesh and the re-casting of the theme to feature a single boy in various guises generates multiple meanings and evokes the moral and psychological complexity of the human condition.”
Described by Holly Koons McCullough, former Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia, and the Award selector for ArtKudos 2011, "Ecce Homo" has been given a Merit Award by the Jury, and with the 5 other prize-winners featured the the 7th annual exhibition of the finalists representing 157 artists from 23 countries.
