Original artwork description:

This vase features scenes and symbols from John Steinbeck's East of Eden. I first read East of Eden when I was going through a rough patch. The book was my companion; I’d look forward to the end of the day and then I’d happily climb into bed and just spend time with the characters. I could practically see their hearts beating and bleeding on the page. It was one of the only times I remember feeling truly sad that a book ended because it meant that I had to say goodbye to the characters. I guess that means Steinbeck imbued them with respect and love rather than with cynicism, which you sometimes see. I like that it’s an earnest book.
