This painting was part of a small series I did mid-2016 where I explored the West and appropriated that subject into contemporary portraiture. I had recently moved to Colorado and was confused about what to paint and thought that maybe if I painted people from this region in a nostalgic yet modern way, it would attract attention. Moving to Denver has been one of the hardest things I've ever done and starting over as an artist in a new city/state has been a non-stop hustle & a HUGE learning experience.
