Artwork description:

Far from land, two crew members of a freighter are up early watching a spectacular sunrise. In making this print l was playing a little with cloud forms, while trying to give a sense of their scale in relation to us little humans. And also to say it's good to have someone else to share a moment with.

This screenprint has a lot of layers of colour, around twelve or so, each printed separately by hand. The different layers are made in different ways: some drawn, some painted, or cut out of paper, or printed on a computer. Each layer once made as a piece of artwork, is exposed onto a screen using a chemical process. it then acts as a stencil, allowing ink to pass through some areas of the screen, and blocking it in others. The colours l use are sometimes opaque or sometimes transparent, allowing layers beneath to show through.

Materials used:

paper, screenprint ink
