Original artwork description:

Close to the village of Barnetby Lincolnshire (mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086) is a wood and a set of ancient gallows. These were erected in the 17th Century on the orders of King James I as a deterrent to two local feuding families - the Ros's from Melton Ross and the Tyrwhits from Kettleby. This feud had lasted over 300 years, and James I ordered that any subsequent death as a result of this long-standing feud would be treated as murder and the offender would be hanged from the gallows. The adjacent woods are locally known as Gallows Wood.

Part of the ongoing Classics series of paintings depicting a place a few miles from my home in Lincolnshire England.

Painting is MDF board, please note painting includes new metallic oils which alter in different light conditions and viewing angles.

Photographs are taken in dull daylight using a canon 450D in 'flash off' mode with absolutely no editing. These are the most honest pictures I can take but due to monitor differences that you view with there maybe slight changes.

Materials used:

Oil Paint on Board
