Acrylic painting of a small cottage at Floddigary at the North end of the Isle of Skye.
I painted this scene from a memory experienced there on a rainy day in February 2023.
It was a typical cold and muggy February day in the north of Skye when just for a few seconds the atmosphere was suddenly lifted by dazzling shafts of sunlight splitting the clouds and temporally illuminated the sea and shoreline close to a small abandoned cottage.
Typically I later painted the scene from memory. I have tried to recapture the atmosphere of darkness contrasted with bright sunlight and movement of light rather than an exact pictorial representation.
I applied the paint quite thickly to the house and foreground and utilised texture medium to help convey the ruggedness of the scene.
This painting is finished in two coats of protective varnish.
