Duntulm Castle on a fine morning in January. The Winter colours on the hillside and the teal coloured water make this dramatic castle on the top of a hill even more wonderful to look at. The castle sits at the very top end of the Isle of Skye and was home to the clan MacDonald although there were many feuds between the MacDonalds and the Macleods over the area. Built in the 14th and 15th centuries it has seen many battles and has a colourful history. Today it overlooks a peaceful bay with the Outer Hebrides on the horizon.
I photograph and print every image, I do not outsource any part of my workflow. Each canvas has been painstakingly crafted to ensure the true colours, resolution and texture are exactly as they should be.
For these special small editions of my work I use Canson® Infinity Museum ProCanvas. This fabulous 100% cotton canvas has been designed "for professionals producing true Fine Art Reproductions that require precision images with a very high resolution".
Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper and canvas for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, Canson has the choice of many famous artists such as Picasso, Ingres, Chagal and Miro to name but a few. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.
The canvas is printed and quality checked by me, it is then varnished with two coats of Hannemuhle matte varnish to protect it from scratches. The print is made with a gallery wrap - this means the outer edges have been prepared to wrap round a frame of 1.5 - 2 inches. This gives the illusion of 3D when it is hung on the wall. It is not mounted on the frame due to the difficulty of shipping such a large item. It is rolled and shipped in a tube so it will arrive in perfect condition.
By using beautiful Canson Museum ProCanvas paper combining it with the fabulous non-fade Epson Ultrachrome K3 with Vivid Magenta inkset of 9 colours, I can produce a print of exceptional quality which will last a lifetime without fading.
