Original painting by UK Artist, James Brunt.

Description:

"Dreams of Yesterday"

Painted on a large 100 x 100 cm canvas, this painting was initially created and chosen from one of my smaller paper studies to transfer on a larger canvas. Inspired by the lakes of Scotland in a summer haze, I focused on bright summer sunlight breaking through under a single cloud-mass over a rural lakeside. My aim was to create the illusion of sunlight scattering through, and bouncing off the insides of the larger semi-transparent cloud. I tried to achieve this by painting layers of warm and cool colours, overlapping in very thin layers of oil paint and medium. I used a muted scaled palette on the beginning stages of this painting, using a high-chromatic palette during the later stages to highlight the bright bold colours. This painting consists primarily of shades of cobalt blue, cerulean blue, warm whites, deep purple greys, greens, browns and warmer orange, yellow and pink/peach tones.

Oil on canvas. Canvas sides have been left white.

Created 2021.
