This drawing was started at Songshan Fengtian Temple during the colder winter months when it is a lot more comfortable to draw outside. The first session was maybe the coldest day of the year when I started this drawing and I remember I had a hot bottle of coffee in my pocket as a hot water bottle keeping me warm, I would have to hold it every so often to warm up my fingers! Not the usual Taiwan experience at all! I completed this picture over a few months in four different sessions as I would draw as much detail as possible and build up the layers each time. It was finished on a very hot and steamy day in May just as the weather started to get really hot and the summer heat was beginning. I love drawing at this Temple as there are so many beautifully intricate carvings and sculptures all over the inside and outside to inspire and enjoy.

Materials used:

Oil Pastel on 160gsm Black Paper
