58 x 38cm, watercolor paper, ink, 2022
In Chinese culture, dragons hold special significance and symbolize good fortune, wisdom, kindness, strength, and longevity. They represent a divine power associated with celestial affairs and are regarded as masters of magic and knowledge.
In ancient times, there was a village located in the southern part of China that suffered from frequent floods caused by the Yellow River. The people endured the flooding of their fields and homes and couldn't find a solution to this ongoing problem.
One day, a gigantic dragon appeared with shimmering golden scales. This dragon had four short legs and mighty wings. It immediately began a ritual of dancing on the land, which lasted for several days. The dragon used its powerful wings to create a strong wind that forced the river water to swiftly flow along its banks.
Thanks to the efforts of the dragon, the water started to recede, and the village was finally freed from the flood. The people were immensely grateful to the dragon for its assistance. They decided to honor it by painting its image on the walls and various objects.
Since then, the dragon has become a symbol of wisdom, strength, and prosperity in Chinese culture. The legend of the dragon from the Yellow River illustrates how dragons are perceived as benevolent creatures that aid humans and bring happiness and abundance.
