Original artwork description:

I love of boats, ships and waterways, be they seas, rivers, streams, lakes. This stems, I think, from reading Arthur Ransome's wonderful books as a child, starting with Swallows and Amazons. This painting was developed from an old photograph of ships on a river and recoloured. I had to do some research to find out what river it was. The Irrawaddy runs the length of Burma/Myanmar and the banks are studded with gold-roofed Buddhist temples like little jewels. The wood substrate is antique wood, at least 100 years old, and rescued from Georgian houses on the Kent coast, undergoing renovation.
