Knockfola (Cnoc Fola in Irish means Hill of Blood), in the Rosses, has the same meaning as the headland called Bloody Foreland in Gweedore. It does not to refer to some past battle or shipwreck happened in the past but to the intense red hue of the rocks at sunset. This is the view from Knockfola across the calm Atlantic Ocean to the hazy headland to the south, Glen Head and Sturrall Ridge. Part of the haedland is shrouded in the sea mist. A very remote, tiny, old limewashed cottage is perched on the edge of bogland.
