Dorset sunset coast
Many colours in the sky,
Feathered small clouds appearing,
Deep blue sea and muted green pastoral land,
Lucky to catch it quickly,
Admiring the view.

Words and expression
I always stop here as I leave Weymouth, Portland , Upwey ridge and the Jurassic coast. I nearly missed this sunset moment and I am very grateful to of seen it.
Original impressionist watercolour on rough textured Fabriano watercolour paper cotton free and acid free 300 gsm 140lb.
I can remember the scene so well as I drive that route to the coast every three weeks. I used my sable hair brushes for this painting. A wet on wet background was applied then I focused on the sunset sky which was very uplifting to paint as I worked away at the colours and cloud formations. I then gradually added the sea colours and definition of the horizon to get it level. The paper was damp while I was adding pigments to the muted landscape and I used a four colour technique. I dropped a very dark earthy green on for the trees and bushes.
