Original artwork description:

This is a subject matter that has inspired me for the last 20 odd years, the fascination of the shapes and colours of shadows and the light. Each year I take off to the wonderful island of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese region of Greece (close to Turkey). I was staying in a family run hotel in the small village of Myrties on the west coast, with a magnificent view of the island of Telendos. Entry to the hotel was up a dozen or so steps on an open patio covered with blossoming bougainvillea. My room had its own separate patio with table and chairs and THIS door. I was totally fascinated with the patterns and colours this situation brought to this area and after sketching and photographing I returned home to paint in oil on a large square canvas.
